On March 21 2018, a Dominican dredger JBB RONG CHANG 8 was capsized in the Badong，Mapo of Malaysia (Southern Strait of Malacca). There were 18 people on board (16 Chinese crew members, 1 Indonesian crew, and 1 Malaysian crew member), among the 16 Chinese crew members, one was dead, three were rescued and the remaining 12 were missing.

After receiving the rescue instructions, Guangzhou Salvage dispatched a rescue team to Malaysia to participate in the rescue action. After great effort, two survivors were found in the pumping house of the wreck in 56 hours after the vessel capsized. The rescue operation created a new record of transnational rescue for sunken vessel, and was highly appreciated by the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
