On 21:35 of 7th Dec ,2004, the German container carrier“MSC ILONA”was collided with a panama container carrier “HYUNDAI ADVANCE”11 nautical mile from the northeast of “DAN GAN”island in the mouth of Zhu jiang River, which caused damage to the daily service tank, sediment tank and fuel oil tank and 1200t heavy oil spilled out. The accident was the largest oil spilling pollution in NAN HAI area in the recent years, which attracted great attention from the Ministry of Communication(MOC) and Government of Guang Dong Province, the incumbent Minister Zhang Chunxian of MOC and vice governor You Ningfeng of Guang Dong province announced significant indication to this accident.
According to the indication of MOC and China Rescue and Salvage(CRS), Guang Zhou Salvage(GS) made emergency response that De Yue and some other oil cleaning vessels with a large quantity of oil cleaning materials were sent out successively for the oil pollution site. GS organized the oil cleaning power in unified command to seal the broken hold of the wreck and eliminate the pollution source that the whole oil cleaning work was going on systematically and effectively.
In the effort of professional oil cleaning force of GS-centric and the some other social oil cleaning power, the pollution source and the oil spilling was controlled successfully and also the spilled oil had been cleaned therefore the marine environment was protected, which has received a favorable reputation from the oil cleaning evaluation experts of MSA.
The salvage system sent out more than 11 specialized oil cleaning ship including “DE YUE”, “SUI JIU 204”, “NAN HAI JIU 159”and “HU JIU LAO 3”, 920m oil booms were used and 25.57t oil dispersant and 13.695t oil absorbent were consumed, 100t oil water was recycled and 21.4t contaminated oil was absorbed by oil absorbent. This oil cleaning and environment rescue activity reflected the great salvage and rescue power and emergency disposal capability to marine unexpected incidents of GS.
