In 2018, Guangzhou Salvage dispatched salvage team to Malaysia twice for salvage of suction dredger YU HANG 258 and RONG CHANG 8 respectively and it makes a good beginning for developing the offshore salvage market.

On 12 Feb 2018, Guangzhou Salvage successfully refloated the 3500t suction dredger YU HANG 258, this salvage operation eliminated the hidden danger of navigation channel and marine environmental pollution for Malacca waterway in Malaysia. This is the first overseas contracting salvage project undertaken by Guangzhou Salvage. 

RONG CHANG 8 is the second overseas salvage contract awarded to Guangzhou Salvage. It is only 2 months after YU HANG 258 salvage. 

RONG CHANG 8 is a suction dredger which is 121.8m in length, 18.8m in width, 8.8m in depth. Its light weight is 2914.5 tons and dead weight is 8460 tons. This vessel sank during dredging operation in Johor Malaysia on 21 March 2018.
