“Hato” Rescue & Salvage Operation

In late August 2017, the No. 13 typhoon “Hato” landed in the coastal areas of Guangdong, causing many ships stranded or sunk in the Pearl River Estuary, posing a serious threat to the safety of the passing ships and the marine environment.

Guangzhou Salvage had dispatched the strongest professional emergency rescue and salvage team, constituted by more than 300 rescue and salvage personnel and 16 nos. of rescue and salvage vessels such as “De Peng”, “De Jin”, “Nan Tian Long” and “Nan Tian Peng”, equipped with decompression chambers, oil booms, oil absorbent sheets and other salvage equipment all together, to the wreckage site for rescue and salvage work.

In this operation, Guangzhou Salvage had rescued five wrecked ships including “GEM NO 8”“Kai Shun You 7”“Bei Lun Hai Shi”“Chang Hang Tan Suo” and salvaged the wreckage “Yu Hai 1”. In particular, the rescue of 46,000 ton Oil Products TankerChang Hang Tan Suohas set a new record for large-tonnage tanker getting rid of stranding at high position, and has removed the "chemical bomb" for the Wanshan Islands in the Pearl River Estuary and eliminated the hidden threat to the navigation safety and marine environment.
