The West Harbour-cross Tunnel of Hong Kong connecting the HK Island and the West Kowloon is part of the New Airport Highway System. It has four holes and six channels, and its underwater section is 1363 m long, consisting of 12 units of immersed tubes, each 113.5 m long and 33.4 m wide. The special technique adopted was to connect the tubes in water, in order to shorten the installation period. The underwater section of HK 502 New Airport Subway Tunnel was jointed by 10 units of tubes, each 126 x 12.42 x 7.65 m, and was constructed simultaneously with the West Harbour-cross Tunnel. It took only approx 1 year for GS to complete the underwater sections of these two large tunnels, which was highly praised by the Japanese and HK counterparts.
